We are thrilled to launch the Friends of Ceræ supporter program, which is intended to provide a means by which an individual can become a direct financial supporter of the journal. In return, Friends will receive different reward benefits commensurate with their level of support. All of the income from the Friends of Ceræ supporter program will go primarily to funding the Friends of Ceræ + Boydell & Brewer Best Essay Prize, and secondarily to ensuring that the journal’s administrative costs are covered. As an independent journal, we do not receive any form of institutional support, so every contribution will go a long way to ensuring the long-term future of the journal and our archives.
The different tiers of Friends along with the annual subscription amount are as follows:
- Socius (Acquaintance) – $5 AUD
- Sodalis (Colleague) – $10 AUD
- Amicus (Friend) – $20 AUD
- Familiaris (Best Friend) – $40 AUD
- Intimus (Confidante) – $50 AUD
- Patronus (Patron)
Please note that the Patronus tier is reserved for organisations which support us materially, financially, or in some other way. These organisations may be found on our Sponsorship page.
Friends of Ceræ Rewards
The different rewards available are as follows:
- Inclusion on our Honour Roll.
- All individual Friends will be listed in the published volume of the journal in the year of their Friendship with Ceræ by their initials + last name(s), while organisations are listed under the Patronus tier.
- If a subscriber wishes to remain anonymous, their name will be replaced by ‘anonymous’. If a person was to become a Friend after the annual volume of the journal was published, then their name will be included in the following year’s volume.
- Access to the annual list of Books available for Review.
- Subscribers of the relevant tiers (Sodalis, Amicus, Familiaris, Intimus) will have access to the list curated by the Reviews Editors of books available for review in the next volume.
- This list will not be available to the general public from Volume 13 onwards.
- Subscribers will have an opportunity to request their preferred choice(s) from books included on the list. Note that access to the list does not automatically ensure the allocation of a title, this being subject to availability and editorial oversight.
- People who are not subscribers may have the option to submit their own book title(s) to the Reviews Editors, and any commissioning of a review will be at the discretion of the Reviews Editors. For more information about the reviews process, please visit the Submissions page.
- The Boydell & Brewer Discount.
- Friends of the relevant tiers (Amicus, Familiaris, Intimus) will receive a code for either 20% off or 40% off all Boydell & Brewer titles published under the following imprints:
- Boydell Press;
- D.S. Brewer;
- Durham University IMEMS Press;
- Tamesis Books;
- University of Rochester Press;
- York Medieval Press.
- There is no limit to the number of transactions to which the code may be applied. All orders must be placed through the Boydell & Brewer website and the code applied during the transaction on their website.
- The codes are only valid during the period 1 July through to 30 June the following year in accordance with the Australian financial year.
- Friends of the relevant tiers (Amicus, Familiaris, Intimus) will receive a code for either 20% off or 40% off all Boydell & Brewer titles published under the following imprints:
- A complimentary Ticket to the annual Conference.
- Friends of the Intimus tier will receive a complimentary Ticket to the annual Conference and access to the conference recordings online for the usual limited period following the conference.
- The annual conference is held at the end of April each year, and recordings are made available through the website (on a password-protected page) from May through to the end of June.

If a supporter becomes a Friend at one tier, and during that same financial year they want to upgrade their support to a higher tier, then they would only need to pay the difference, not the full amount of the next tier, accompanied by an email to the Treasurer.
Payments may be taken in advance of 1 July annually so long as it is noted in the transaction details (via PayPal or bank transfer) that the payment applies to the following financial year. Please visit the Become a Friend of Ceræ page to become a Friend!
